Working Title Comic Character Workshop
Aug 13th, 2019
This is a character for a comic book idea I've been thinking about. I was gonna go with the title "Ghost World" but that was taken by a high school comedy movie from 2001. So the title is tbd. But The concept is thus: an alien bent on total conquest of the human race arrives on Earth only to find that everyone is already dead, and they're still floating around as ghosts, very confused ones, completely unsure of how they died or what to do now. The main character is this scrappy bitch here. Her and the alien go on an adventure to make the most out of the situation and maybe figure out the mystery of how humanity ended up Ghosted.

Here's a Business card mockup I made for myself. I'm pretty happy with it so I might go get some physical ones made. To use the mockup I did, you can go here.

This is a two page spread in the Cape Kids comic I'm working on where a new character is introduced. She's currently seeing a friend in the hospital, but has apprehensions about going inside.

My most recent commission is for a custom Pathfinder Character sheet and spell sheet for a friend's undine character. The ocean is something that's harder for me to capture the essence of having always lived in a land locked state, but I have a few ideas on how I wanna approach it. Starting with this aesthetically pleasing ocean background, I'm gonna see what starting at the top with quaint shells, starfish, etc and then slowly becoming tentacles and urchins and other spookier elements.
Emotional Post of emotions

I painted this while I was listening to the Hamilton Soundtrack so a lot of excess emotion was poured into it.

The third page of a Cape Kids comic that I've been working on. In this one, Acer is properly introduced and continues to assure Pia that she's a great live streamer. After taking a blow to her ego, she attempts to make herself taller than Acer by standing on the bucket (first seen back in the final panel of page one). They are interrupted by an alarm as the screen behind them reads "APATHY DETECTED". Pia explains that apathy means not caring about others and Acer uses the function in his high-tech watch to call the other cape kids.
This is a rework of the third page that I did just to clarify some lines and iterate the monitor screen better.

I've decided my next custom D&D character sheet will be Pokemon themed. Specifically in the stylings of Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal on the Game Boy Color.
I've started with the logo, making sure to utilize the weird almost eye-like thing Pokemon puts inside its letterforms. There's a little pixel art that's gonna go into this one, namely the player character from the games and some of the text. I found a nice font that really does a good job of emulating the game typeface.

This is the second page of the Cape Kids comic I've been working on. In this scene, Pia introduces herself as one of the Cape Kids, a group who show other kids that they have real life superpowers that they can use to help a cause they care about.

She talks about the superpower equation: taking your talent plus your heart to equal your superpower, and gives her own superpower equation as an example. Acer pats Pia on the head and says that yes, even though Pia is very clumsy, she uses her talent to help a cause she cares about.

This is a rework of the second page to try and be more clear in what I was going for and also to try drawing more on-model.

I love Pokemon and especially love Vaporeon. He's a mermaid and he's a hero.

Sculpture has always seemed like this extremely difficult platform to dive onto as a consumer and as a practitioner. I see either the incredibly stunning rendering of the human form in Michaelangelo's Pieta, or I see the cacophony of trash-garbage of Rauschenburg's Monogram. Both are too lofty for me.

Crafting however, is a little more accessible. 3D modeling is so intuitive to me because there's no secrets, no hidden elements. When I draw something, half of the subject is hidden from the viewer and myself, but I have to consider it. We all know that a drawing of the back of someone's head has a face attached to it, even if there's no visual indication of the face itself. This isn't true of sculpture, as for the most part everyone experiencing it has access to all the sides and perspectives.

I knew at some point in my career I'd be driven to make a sequential story of some sort. I've even dabbled a little in it before just for fun or as a gift to a friend. Hopefully looking back over this once it's all said and done will shed some light on what I did wrong or right along the way.

This sequence has Pia accidentally beginning her live stream before she's fully prepared. Acer gives her some advice on tech while he's playing a video game and it seems like Pia wasn't the only one not prepared. Pixel the dog wakes up just in time for her intro.
there's a short scene in the second issue of Scott Pilgrim that kinda inspired this one. Scott was having a crisis about dating a high schooler while he was playing a video game in the dark and Ramona showed up to assure him that 11am was indeed very late in the day to get up and get ready.

This is a kinda weird entry in the Steal Like an Artist Journal. I took on the persona of a regretful OJ Simpson lamenting his crimes.

This journal prompt is what began my love affair with the papermate inkjoy gel 0.7 pens (I have over 15 colors now).

Austin Kleon's guided journal for artists: The Steal Like an Artist Journal, A Notebook for Creative Kleptomaniacs, is the only guided journal that's actually had me filling out pages with any kind of frequency. In general, I love the prompts and Austin's trademark wit is present throughout.

On this page I was unsure if guns were evil and what comes after a cube.
